JNU access also through CUCET; Recommendation approved

There is no longer a separate entrance exam for JNU admission. The Academic Council has approved the recommendation to include JNU in the Common Entrance Examination for Central Universities. The decision will be implemented from this year. The teachers’ union protested the decision at an Academic Council meeting.

Teachers ‘and students’ groups have blamed the VC’s unilateral move for not negotiating. The CUCET (Central Universities Common Entrance Test (CUCET)) for admission to Central Universities will now be the criteria for admission to JNU. The CUCET exam is administered by the National Testing Agency. The University of Delhi had earlier stated that the CUCET would be used for admission in the year 2022-23.

Admissions Director Jayant Tripathi said the decision was strongly supported at the Academic Council meeting. It is argued that the CUCET exam will provide an opportunity for more students and avoid having to write a lot of exams.
