With over 2,30,000 Covid cases per day, Prime Minister talks to the Chief Ministers
The number of Covid patients daily in the country has crossed two lakh. More than 230,000 Covid cases are reported daily. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will meet Chief Ministers today to assess the Covid situation. The meeting is at 4.30 pm. The Prime Minister will discuss the recommendations of the Covid review meeting with the Chief Ministers on Sunday.
Government sources say the national lockdown is not on the agenda. The death toll is rising in all states except Kerala. 13000 cases have been reported in UP. The number of patients per day in Maharashtra and Delhi has risen sharply. In Maharashtra, 46,723 people were infected and in Delhi, 27,561 people were infected. In Delhi, the positive rate rose to 26 per cent.
In Tamil Nadu, Covid confirmed 17934 more people yesterday. There are 7372 new patients in Chennai alone. 19 more deaths have been confirmed. This brings the total death toll to 36,905. The test positivity rate in Chennai is 21.3%. TPR in the state rose to 11.3%. As the Pongal festival begins tomorrow, 16,000 policemen will be deployed in Chennai alone to ensure social control. The increase in congestion in shopping malls is a cause for concern. Restrictions continue, including a night curfew.
