Jasprit Bumrah Ruled Out Of IPL 2023, May Undergo Back Surgery: Sources
According to sources, the popular Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah won’t play in the Indian Premier League (IPL) in 2023. Due to a back problem, the fast bowler has been sidelined since September of last year. Bumrah may need back surgery to fully recover from the issue, according to reports. The plans of the Rohit Sharma-led Mumbai Indians have been severely disrupted by Bumrah’s injury as the IPL 2023 gets underway on March 31.
Bumrah might not be available for the World Test Championship final in June, where India is most likely to advance, if missing the IPL wasn’t awful enough already.
Bumrah has made numerous comeback attempts after suffering a back injury in August that prevented him from competing in the Asia Cup, but the wait has been frustrating. When he was selected for India’s T20 World Cup squad in September and even participated in the final two T20 International matches against Australia on September 23 and 25, the injury at first did not appear to be serious.
Bumrah missed the first T20I match against South Africa three days later and it was discovered that he had undergone scans, which had shown a stress-related injury to his back. As soon as he arrived to NCA, scans revealed the seriousness of the damage. He was unable to compete in the T20 World Cup, which India won in semifinal finish.
In mid-December, Bumrah began bowling after picking up his rehabilitation in November. As he was included in the white-ball series played in January, more than a week after the original squad was selected, his growth appeared to be positive.
Bumrah had completed the match simulation workouts in the NCA, but his issue returned in January when he was given heavier workloads for fitness drills. He was unable to participate in the matches against Australia for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy and Sri Lanka because scans detected the emergence of a new ache.
Bumrah should not be rushed back into the team and should wait till he is fully fit, according to the Indian team management and captain Rohit Sharma.
