Janaki Easwer: 13-Year-Old Indian-Origin Girl To Perform At T20 World Cup Final

Even though India was ousted from the T20 World Cup after falling to England by 10 wickets in the semifinals, an Indian voice will command attention at the Melbourne Cricket Ground’s closing ceremony (MCG).

The Twenty20 World Cup final will feature a performance by Janaki Eshwar, a 13-year-old Australian of Indian heritage who rose to fame on the popular reality competition “The Voice” in Australia. She will perform with Icehouse, an Australian rock band. The second song of the evening, “Icehouse’s We Can Get Together,” which also features Thando Sikwila, a Zimbabwean native, will feature Janaki as a performer. In an interview with the Indian Express, the girl expressed her enthusiasm at the prospect of performing in the World Cup final.

“Performing in front of a massive MCG crowd and getting broadcast to millions of people globally will be an unbelievable experience. My parents are ardent cricket fans. It is through them that I got to know the magnitude of this opportunity. I heard that the tickets are already sold out. I am looking forward to performing and also the game. It would have been nicer if India played the final, though,” said Janaki.

Anoop Divakaran and Divya Raveendran, Janaki’s parents, are from Kozhikode, Kerala, and have spent the last 15 years residing in Australia. When Janaki was five years old, her parents first introduced her to Indian music, and she later began taking Carnatic singing classes.

The festivities before to the start of the game will honour each side that competed in the World Cup and will bring together performers who represent multicultural Australia, according to the Official ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022 Website. Before the cricket takes centre stage, the celebrations, which will be broadcast to millions of people worldwide, will bring the famous MCG to life with the help of musicians, dancers, and noises from all around the world.

On Sunday at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, Pakistan and England will meet in the T20 World Cup championship game. While Jos Buttler-led England thrashed India to get to the summit match, Pakistan defeated New Zealand in the semifinals. But in the end, the possibility of rain hangs large, with Sunday’s forecast calling for a probability of precipitation. In the event that a match cannot take place on the planned day, it is crucial to note that there is a reserve day on Monday.
