Instagram Launches “Instants” for Raw and Candid Photo Sharing
Instagram has rolled out a new feature called “Instants,” allowing users to share casual and unfiltered photos with close friends and selected followers. The photos disappear after being viewed, though users can save them privately in an archive for up to a year or later repost them as Story recaps. The company says the feature is aimed at making sharing feel more authentic and less polished.
The new feature is integrated into Instagram’s inbox section, where shared Instants appear as small photo stacks in the bottom-right corner. Unlike regular Instagram posts or Stories, Instants do not support filters or edits, encouraging users to post moments in their original form. Friends can react, reply, and share their own Instants, creating a more interactive and spontaneous experience.
Instagram has also introduced a separate Instants camera app in select countries, including India, for quicker photo sharing. The platform says the feature includes privacy and safety tools similar to the main Instagram app, including block, mute, restrict controls, and parental supervision options for teen accounts.
