C. Joseph Vijay Demands NEET Abolition After 2026 Paper Leak Row
C. Joseph Vijay has renewed Tamil Nadu’s demand to abolish the NEET medical entrance examination after the cancellation of NEET-UG 2026 over alleged paper leaks and irregularities. The exam, conducted by the National Testing Agency, was cancelled following investigations that were later handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation. Vijay said the incident exposed “structural flaws” in the national-level examination system.
The Tamil Nadu Chief Minister stated that repeated controversies surrounding NEET had severely affected lakhs of medical aspirants and their families. He urged the Union government to allow states to fill MBBS, BDS, and AYUSH seats under the state quota based on Class 12 marks instead of a centralized entrance exam. Vijay also pointed out that a similar paper leak controversy had occurred in 2024 despite reform recommendations made by a committee led by former ISRO chief Dr. K. Radhakrishnan.
Meanwhile, the CBI has arrested five people in connection with the alleged paper leak and seized digital devices for forensic analysis. Investigators believe the leaked “guess paper” was circulated through coaching networks in Rajasthan before reaching students ahead of the May 3 examination. The controversy has also triggered protests by student groups and political parties, with opposition leaders demanding accountability and a wider probe into the matter.
