Induction Stove Demand Surges in India Amid LPG Shortage Fears
Indian households are rushing to buy induction stoves as concerns grow over a potential cooking gas shortage linked to the ongoing Middle East conflict involving Iran, Israel and the United States. As one of the world’s largest importers of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), India has invoked emergency powers to increase supplies for households, though availability has tightened for commercial users such as restaurants, canteens and hostels. Long queues at gas agencies and fears of refill delays have pushed consumers to seek electric cooking alternatives.
Online and offline retailers are struggling to keep up with demand. Several induction stove models on platforms like Amazon, Flipkart, Blinkit and Zepto were listed as “currently unavailable,” while stores reported delays in fresh stock. According to Amazon India, sales of induction stoves have surged more than 30 times, while purchases of rice cookers and electric pressure cookers have increased fourfold as households prepare for possible gas disruptions.
Appliance manufacturers are ramping up production to meet the sudden spike in demand. TTK Prestige said orders for induction stoves have tripled, prompting the company to raise production capacity to full levels and increase staffing. Industry analysts say companies such as Butterfly Gandhimathi Appliances and Stove Kraft could benefit from the surge, though reliance on imported components may create supply risks if demand remains elevated.
