India’s T20 World Cup Champions Awarded ₹1.31 Billion Bonus by BCCI
The Twenty20 World Cup-winning Indian cricket team has been awarded a bonus of ₹1.31 billion (about $14.24 million) by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), six times the prize money the team received for winning the tournament. India clinched their historic third men’s T20 World Cup title with a commanding 96-run victory over New Zealand in the final held in Ahmedabad on Sunday, earning $2.34 million as the official tournament prize.
The BCCI, the world’s wealthiest cricket board, announced the additional reward on Tuesday to recognize the team’s outstanding achievement. The bonus amount is roughly $3 million higher than the tournament’s total prize pool of $11.25 million. In a statement, the board congratulated the players, support staff, and selectors for the remarkable victory and wished them continued success in future competitions.
This is not the first time the BCCI has offered generous rewards to the national side. Last year, the board also granted a $6.72 million cash bonus to the Champions Trophy-winning Indian team, nearly triple the $2.24 million they received as prize money for the title. With India now three-time T20 World Cup champions, captain Suryakumar Yadav said the team’s next major ambition is to secure a gold medal at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
