India’s Enforcement Directorate Searches Vedanta Premises Over Foreign Exchange Violations
India’s financial crime-fighting agency, the Enforcement Directorate, conducted searches on Tuesday at premises linked to the diversified natural resources conglomerate Vedanta Group. According to a report by the Economic Times, which cited unnamed officials, the operation is part of an ongoing investigation into potential regulatory infractions.
The federal agency is carrying out the searches specifically under the framework of India’s Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA). While the enforcement action has been confirmed, precise details regarding the nature of the alleged violations or the specific locations targeted were not immediately made available by the investigators.
In response to the development, a Vedanta spokesperson confirmed the searches and stated that the company is extending full cooperation to the authorities by providing all requested information. The spokesperson added that Vedanta remains strictly committed to complying with all applicable laws, but declined to comment further while the regulatory process is actively underway.
