Happy Birthday to the Mozart Of Madras; 5 legendary songs of A R Rahman

Musical legend A R Rahman is turning 54 on Wednesday. Allahrakha Rahman known professionally as A. R. Rahman who works predominantly in Tamil and Hindi movies. He has been an inspiration to many and his work is like a roller coaster journey. In a career spanning almost three decades, the global icon has two Academy Awards, a BAFTA Award, two Grammy Awards, six National Film Awards, a Golden Globe and 15 Filmfare Awards to his credit. Let’s go through some of his masterpiece.

Tere Bina

The melodious track is another beautiful composition by Rahman. Performed by Rahman, Murtuza Khan, Quadir Khan and Chinmayi, it is dedicated to the memory of Pakistani qawwali singer Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan. The song is about the lover telling his beloved that his life is incomplete without her.

Kun Faya Kun

This amazing track is from the movie Rockstar, is composed by AR Rahman, and written by Irshad Kamil. The song is sung by Rahman, Mohit Chauhan and Javed Ali. It has got a lot of appreciation for a unique touch in the Sufi song.

Uyire Uyire

The track Uyire was among the most popular and acclaimed songs of the 1990s. The lyrics are written by Vairamuthu and was sung by Hariharan and K S Chitra. The song incorporates elements of Sufi music. A R Rahman received the Filmfare Award for Best Music Director for the fourth consecutive time.

Jai Ho

The amazing track from the movie Slumdog Millionaire, is composed by AR Rahman, and written by Gulzar and Tanvi Shah. The song has the marvellous voice of Rahman, Sukhwinder Singh, Tanvi Shah, Mahalakshmi Iyer, and Vijay Prakash. The song bagged an Academy Award for Best Original Song and a Grammy Award for Best Song Written for a Motion Picture.

Malargale Malargale

The soothing track is from the movies Love Birds. The film’s score and soundtrack composed by A R Rahman was highly successful and was sung by Hariharan and K S Chitra.
