Google CEO Sundar Pichai Addresses Antitrust Challenges, Anticipates Prolonged Legal Battles
Sundar Pichai, CEO of Alphabet Inc., has acknowledged that Google’s ongoing antitrust trials may take years to resolve but stressed that they do not pose an immediate threat to the company’s operations. In an interview on “The David Rubenstein Show,” Pichai noted the lengthy legal process and emphasized Google’s commitment to defending its ability to innovate, stating, “Where we think it really harms our ability to innovate on behalf of our users, we are going to be vigorous in defending ourselves.”
The tech giant faces two major antitrust cases brought by the US Justice Department. One alleges Google’s dominance in digital advertising, while the other involves its control over online search. Although Google lost the search case, Pichai indicated the company will appeal the decision, and the remedies phase could stretch over several years. The advertising case, if ruled against Google, could potentially lead to a breakup of its assets, although the company plans to challenge such a ruling.
These legal challenges come as Google continues to advance its work in artificial intelligence, a field in which it is striving to secure a leading position. By the time the trials conclude, industry experts suggest that the technology landscape may have transformed, potentially affecting the outcomes of these cases.
