Bharti Airtel Launches India’s First AI-Powered Spam Detection Solution
Telecom operator Bharti Airtel has introduced India’s first AI-driven spam detection tool to tackle the growing issue of unsolicited calls and messages. This free, auto-activated service identifies millions of spam communications daily, ensuring enhanced security for its users. Airtel’s Managing Director and CEO, Gopal Vittal, emphasized the importance of customer security, stating that the system successfully flags over 100 million spam calls and 3 million spam SMSes daily.
Developed in-house by Airtel’s data scientists, the AI-powered solution uses a proprietary algorithm to identify and classify calls and SMSes as “Suspected SPAM.” In addition to flagging spam, the system alerts customers to potentially malicious links in SMS messages by scanning them in real time against a centralized database of blacklisted URLs. This proactive approach aims to prevent users from falling victim to harmful links.
The initiative follows recent steps by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), which has mandated service providers to block all promotional voice calls and messages from unregistered marketers. Airtel’s solution complements this regulatory move, offering its customers a comprehensive safeguard against spam.
