German Prosecutor axed in treason row
Germany’s justice minister has dismissed the country’s top prosecutor over the charges of accusing the government for having interfered with a treason investigation. It is reported that the prosecutors are investigating whether the Netzpolitik site has revealed state secrets in the articles about the plans to step up state surveillance. This has further sparked the street protests last week over demanding for freedom of press. This issue is about the freedom of speech and about the journalists who exercise the right of charging the treason and might even lead to facing the prison. Its investigation has sparked national outrage and newspaper headlines screaming that the freedom of press was in danger. It was reported that Netzpolitik had received donations of more than 50,000 euro. Now free speech and data protection are the current topics in Germany. Harald Range has been accused for this case in which the critics have accused him for double standards.
