GalaxEye Secures U.S. Patent for Satellite Imaging Technology
Indian space-tech startup GalaxEye has secured a U.S. patent for technology that synchronises optical and radar sensors on satellites. The system allows both sensors to capture precisely aligned images of the same location at the same time, improving the reliability of Earth observation data.
The patent comes as demand for satellite imaging grows across sectors including security, agriculture, insurance and disaster response. GalaxEye said its technology can provide weather-agnostic imaging, enabling observations even in cloud cover and darkness. The company has raised around $21 million so far.
Founded by engineers from IIT Madras, GalaxEye plans to build a 30-satellite constellation over the next five years. The startup also acquired Bengaluru-based spacecraft engineering firm StarOps in August to strengthen its manufacturing and satellite-system capabilities, as India pushes to expand its commercial space industry.
