Samsung Reportedly Lays Off Nearly 100 Executives in India
Samsung India has reportedly asked around 80–100 employees to leave as the company faces growing pressure in its television and home appliance businesses. According to reports, the layoffs are being carried out in batches and have affected employees across various management levels, including director-level executives, team leads, branch managers and area managers.
The company is reportedly considering a much broader workforce reduction, potentially affecting up to 25% of its India workforce across sales, marketing and electronics operations. Samsung’s domestic electronics sales team is estimated to have around 550–600 executives, meaning the additional cuts could potentially affect another 138–150 employees. Samsung has not officially confirmed the reported layoffs.
The restructuring comes amid rising memory-chip and raw-material costs, a weaker Indian rupee and slowing smartphone demand. Samsung is also facing profitability challenges in categories including TVs, refrigerators, washing machines and air conditioners. Reports say affected employees are being offered a severance package of three months’ salary plus one additional month for every completed year of service.
