FIFA Signs Zee Deal for India World Cup Broadcast Rights
FIFA has reached an agreement with Zee Entertainment Enterprises to broadcast the 2026 FIFA World Cup in India, ending months of uncertainty over television rights in one of football’s largest markets. The deal was finalized just days before the tournament begins on June 11 across the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
The agreement strengthens Zee’s presence in the sports broadcasting sector, where competitors such as JioStar dominate premium sports content. FIFA had reportedly reduced its initial asking price for the India rights package after struggling to secure a buyer, partly due to concerns over late-night match timings for Indian audiences.
Beyond the 2026 World Cup, the partnership gives Zee rights to broadcast 39 FIFA events through 2034, including the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup. Investors welcomed the announcement, with Zee shares rising sharply following confirmation of the deal.
