Viral ‘Cockroach’ Youth Movement Plans Protest Against Education Minister
A rapidly growing online movement known as the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) is preparing to take its campaign from social media to the streets, with founder Abhijeet Dipke announcing plans for a peaceful protest in New Delhi. The group is demanding the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over recent exam paper leaks and alleged errors in school exam evaluations that have affected millions of students.
The movement has gained massive traction among young Indians, focusing on issues such as unemployment, inflation, and education-related concerns. According to Dipke, nearly 800,000 students have signed a petition calling for the minister’s resignation, while the group has attracted more than 22 million followers on Instagram in a matter of days.
The CJP has emerged as one of the largest online expressions of dissent during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s tenure. The group’s name references remarks made by Surya Kant comparing some unemployed youth to “cockroaches,” a comment that later sparked controversy. The movement has also highlighted India’s youth unemployment challenges and growing frustration over economic pressures.
