Twirling Moustaches, Boxer Vijender Singh With Rahul Gandhi In Yatra

Olympic boxing champion and Congressman Vijender Singh joined the “Bharat Jodo Yatra” at Khargone, Madhya Pradesh, and walked a few kilometres with Rahul Gandhi.

In a picture posted by the Yatra’s Twitter account and labelled “Ram Ram Ji,” the two could be seen conversing animatedly and twisting their moustaches, a tribute to the boxer’s native Haryanvi manner.

Vijender Singh, a native of the Haryana district of Bhiwani, ran in the most recent Lok Sabha election from South Delhi but finished third. He is best known for winning the bronze medal at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, becoming him the first boxer from India to do so. He has also won one bronze and two silvers at the Commonwealth Games. He presently competes in international boxing matches as a professional.

The moustache-twirling draws attention once more to Rahul Gandhi’s bushy, growing mustache, which has drawn praise from those who view it as a symbol of his dedication to his campaigning as well as some jabs, like comparisons to the ousted Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein.

Vijender Singh is one of the few famous people who have joined the 3,500-km Yatra, which started in Kanyakumari in September and is expected to end in Kashmir early the following year, despite the fact that he is also an active Congress member.

Along with legendary actor-director Amol Palekar and other actors from Bollywood and television, including Riya Sen, Mona Ambegaonkar, Rashami Desai, and Sushant Singh, Rahul Gandhi has also been joined by actor-filmmaker Pooja Bhatt. Politically, Rahul Gandhi may run into the acrimonious power struggle between Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot and his rival Sachin Pilot as the Yatra enters Congress-ruled Rajasthan, in addition to dealing with inquiries from communities seeking reservations.
