Emmanuel Macron Arrives in Mumbai, Holds Talks with Narendra Modi on Trade, AI and Defence
French President Emmanuel Macron arrived in Mumbai for a three-day official visit to India, marking his fourth trip to the country and first to Mumbai. He was received at the airport by Maharashtra Governor Acharya Devvrat, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and other senior leaders. During the visit, Macron will hold high-level discussions with Prime Minister Narendra Modi to deepen the India-France strategic partnership across key sectors.
The two leaders are set to review progress in defence, space cooperation, civil nuclear energy and emerging technologies, with a strong focus on artificial intelligence. They will meet in Mumbai for bilateral talks and jointly launch the India-France Year of Innovation 2026. Engagements include the India-France Innovation Forum, business interactions, exchange of MoUs at Raj Bhawan, and a cultural event at the Gateway of India. A potential defence announcement regarding 114 Rafale fighter jets under the Make in India initiative is also anticipated.
Following his Mumbai engagements, President Macron will travel to New Delhi to attend the India AI Impact Summit 2026 at Bharat Mandapam. The summit, described as the first major global AI gathering hosted in the Global South, will bring together world leaders, industry executives, and technology experts to discuss the future of artificial intelligence and global cooperation.
