Reliance Retail Pilots Search Platform to Boost Omni-Channel Strategy

India’s largest retailer, Reliance Retail Ltd, has begun piloting a new search-and-discovery platform aimed at better integrating its physical stores with online shopping channels. The initiative, announced on the sidelines of the Retail Leadership Summit in Mumbai, is part of its broader multi-channel push to enhance customer engagement and personalization across formats.

The platform is currently being tested at apparel chains such as Trends and Yousta, with plans to expand to Smart Bazaar stores later this year. Shoppers can scan QR codes inside stores to access tailored product recommendations and search tools based on their preferences. The company has not disclosed investment details or operational specifics related to the rollout.

The move comes amid rising competition in India’s retail space from players like Amazon.com Inc and Walmart-backed Flipkart, as well as quick-commerce firms including Swiggy’s Instamart and Eternal Ltd’s Blinkit. With its online arm JioMart expanding into the 10-minute delivery segment last year, Reliance Retail is positioning itself to defend margins and capture shifting consumer demand in a fast-evolving market.
