Sanofi to Expand Hyderabad GCC, Workforce to Cross 4,500

French drugmaker Sanofi announced plans to expand its global capability centre (GCC) in Hyderabad, increasing its workforce to more than 4,500 employees from the current 2,600. The expansion will be backed by a multi-hundred-million-dollar investment, though the company did not disclose a specific timeline for hiring. In 2024, Sanofi had committed to investing 400 million euros in its India GCC operations by the end of the decade.

The Hyderabad centre will strengthen capabilities across research and development, artificial intelligence, data analytics, medical affairs, commercial operations and corporate functions. Multinational corporations are increasingly using India-based GCCs as innovation and high-value service hubs rather than traditional back-office centres, reflecting the country’s growing strategic importance in global operations.

India currently hosts more than 1,700 GCCs employing over 1.9 million professionals, according to consultancy Anarock, which projects the market could reach $105–$110 billion by 2030. The expansion announcement comes ahead of the BioAsia conference in Hyderabad, where global pharma leaders including Eli Lilly and Company, Novo Nordisk and Merck KGaA are expected to discuss research expansion and growth prospects in India’s pharmaceutical sector.
