Canada, India Near US$2.8 Billion Uranium Export Agreement: Report
Canada and India are in the final stages of securing a major export agreement valued at about US$2.8 billion, according to a report by the Globe and Mail. The deal, which would see Canada supply uranium to India for the next 10 years, is expected to involve Canadian uranium producer Cameco Corp. The agreement is reportedly part of a broader effort to enhance nuclear cooperation between the two countries.
Neither government has commented on the development, and Reuters noted it could not independently verify the report. The update comes as Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi held discussions on the sidelines of the G20 summit in Johannesburg, signaling renewed diplomatic engagement between the nations.
The Indian government announced that both countries have agreed to resume long-stalled negotiations on a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA). The proposed pact aims to double bilateral trade to USD 50 billion by 2030, marking a significant step toward strengthening economic ties after talks were halted due to a diplomatic dispute two years ago.
