Brookfield Projects AI Data Centre Boom in India

Brookfield Asset Management expects around 6.5 gigawatts (GW) of AI-focused data centre capacity to be added in India over the next five years, driven by rising demand for AI inference. The company said India’s current data centre capacity stands at about 1.5 GW, with most facilities serving traditional computing needs rather than artificial intelligence.

According to Brookfield, non-AI data centre capacity is expected to increase to 3 GW, while AI-related infrastructure will account for significant new growth. Brookfield’s Digital Connexion joint venture, formed with Digital Realty and Reliance Industries, currently has 160 megawatts of capacity in India, with 60 megawatts already operational and fully leased, while the remaining capacity is under development.

Beyond digital infrastructure, Brookfield also plans to expand its renewable energy portfolio by adding 4 GW to 4.5 GW of clean energy capacity this year. The global asset manager currently oversees more than $32 billion in assets across India and aims to grow that figure to over $100 billion within the next five years.
