Summer heat: Telangana, AP to reschedule outdoor labour’s working hours

In an effort to protect the outdoor labours from direct sun-heat attack, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana governments are planning to reschedule the working hours of outdoor labours. It is learned that the Andhra Pradesh government is set to give a brief off-time during the noon hours, which is from 12 pm to till 4 pm. At the same time, the Telangana government looks to provide off-time from 12 pm to till 3 pm. Earlier, while hearing public interest litigation, the HC bench headed by Justice Dilip Bhosale and P Naveen Rao sought both governments opinion in the issue. Later, on last day, the representatives of both governments attended a sitting and explained their government’s opinion and defensive measures, which were articulated by respective governments to curtail the rising summer heat threats. It is learned that the PIL filed by a renowned journalist accused that the governments of both states failed to take effective measures to bring down death cases related to the summer heat. In contrary to the journalist’s claims, the government representatives reportedly indicated that the respective government agencies have already constituted plans to tackle the summer heat threat. Meanwhile, the representative reportedly informed the court about the technical difficulties in controlling privet labours. It seems that the court accepted their arguments. However, the court ordered that the government should introduce massive awareness programs on heat wave particularly in the rural regions. It is said that the HC bench will directly monitor the developments on the implementation of the state’s plan.
