At Noida Society, Bulldozer Action Against Politician Who Abused Woman
Today, bulldozers demolished unlawful buildings built by a politician accused of abusing and assaulting a woman in a Noida housing society. Shrikant Tyagi, who claims to be a member of the BJP’s Kisan Morcha—a claim the BJP disputes—is on the run.
Authorities and police arrived at the Grand Omaxe Society in Sector 93 B in Noida and destroyed the unauthorised building on Shrikant Tyagi’s land. Additionally, Mr. Tyagi’s followers who caused a commotion at the housing society after an incident involving Mr. Tyagi and a woman have been detained by the police. The Gangster Act has been used by the Noida police to prosecute Mr. Tyagi. At the Grand Omaxe Society a few days ago, Mr. Tyagi and a woman got into a fight.
The woman opposed to Mr. Tyagi planting some saplings because she said it was against the law. However, Mr. Tyagi asserted that he had every right to do so. Videos of the incident that showed Mr. Tyagi abusing the woman and hitting her quickly became popular on social media.
Days after the event, fans of Mr. Tyagi showed up at the housing complex, yelled slogans, and demanded the woman’s address. Despite Mr. Tyagi’s claims that he belongs to the BJP’s Kisan Morcha and the images he posted of himself with senior party figures, the BJP has distanced itself from him.Khemchand Sharma, a spokesman for the BJP in Delhi, hailed Yogi Adityanath’s administration in Uttar Pradesh for taking “severe action” against the “abusive Shrikant Tyagi.”
“Thanks to CM #YogiAdityanath’s government for acting strictly against ‘abusive’ Shrikant Tyagi. His Illegal structures being razed now by noida administration. #ShrikantTyagi @myogiadityanath,” Mr Sharma tweeted. Noida Phase 2 station in-charge Sujit Upadhyay was suspended for his role in the case. Mr Upadhyay was suspended for negligence. According to the NCW, it has written to the police requesting that the woman be given police protection.
