American Airlines to Double India Tech Hub Workforce
American Airlines plans to double the workforce at its India technology hub in Hyderabad to around 800 employees by early 2027, according to sources familiar with the matter. The airline established the center in 2024 and currently employs nearly 400 professionals working in software engineering, artificial intelligence, and cybersecurity.
The expansion highlights the growing importance of India as a global technology and innovation hub for multinational companies. Several global firms, including JPMorgan Chase, Walmart, McDonald’s, Nvidia, and Eli Lilly, have expanded their operations in India to leverage skilled talent and manage rising costs in other markets.
American Airlines said its Hyderabad center is part of a broader global technology network that works alongside teams in Fort Worth and Phoenix to improve digital operations and customer experience. Industry data from Nasscom and Zinnov shows India now hosts more than 2,100 global capability centers employing about 2.36 million people and generating close to $100 billion in revenue.
