Airtel Partners with IBM to Strengthen Cloud Infrastructure in India
India’s second-largest telecom operator, Bharti Airtel, has announced a strategic partnership with IBM to offer the American tech giant’s services through its recently launched Airtel Cloud platform. The collaboration aims to meet the surging demand for cloud computing in India, driven by the rapid adoption of artificial intelligence technologies and growing data localization requirements across industries.
Through the partnership, Airtel Cloud customers will gain access to IBM’s advanced offerings, including AI-ready servers tailored for regulated sectors such as banking, healthcare, and government. The move aligns with Airtel’s broader efforts to expand its digital ecosystem after its digital arm, Xtelify, launched the Airtel Cloud service in August.
Airtel and IBM also plan to establish two new Multizone Regions (MZRs) in Mumbai and Chennai, designed to enhance data security and ensure uninterrupted operations. The announcement follows Google’s recent $15 billion investment to build an AI data center in Andhra Pradesh, underscoring India’s growing position as a key hub for cloud and AI infrastructure development.
