Jammu-Srinagar Highway Closed For 3rd Day After Fresh Landsides

Following new landslides in the Ramban district, the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway was closed to traffic for the third day in a row today, trapping more than 800 vehicles on the highway.

Mudslides and shooting stones between Chanderkote and Banihal in the district on Monday blocked the 270-kilometer-long highway, the only all-weather route connecting Kashmir with the rest of the nation.
Officials announced that men and equipment have been deployed to clear the route, adding that it will take many hours to complete the task.

In the meanwhile, a warning from traffic authorities asks people not to use the highway.

They claim that around 800 automobiles are stuck along the roadway at various locations. They claimed that due to the significant snowfall, traffic was also halted on the Mughal road that links the Jammu district of Poonch with the Shopian region of Kashmir.

The officials stated that a number of inter-district highways in Jammu’s mountainous areas are closed as a result of severe snowfall.
