200 cows die of ‘Starvation’ and ‘lack of medicine’

Around 200 cows were reported to have lost their life allegedly of starvation and lack of medicines at a cow shelter owned by the BJP leader Harish Verma. According to the post mortem reports submitted by the doctors, 30 cows so far were confirmed of starvation related death. While the villagers claimed that around 200 cows had lost their life of which a majority of them have been buried near the shelter.

BJP leader Harish Verma was arrested on Friday and was charged under section 6 and 7 of ‘Chhattisgarh Agricultural Cattle Preservation act’ – 2004, Section 11 of ‘Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act’ 1960 and Section 409 of ‘Indian Penal Code’.

Upon asked about his negligence on preserving the cattle Mr Verma said “ My Gaushala is overcrowded. There are more than 650 cows against the capacity of 220. I have intimated the government many times that I am not able to feed them, but in vain. More than 10 lakhs meant for the gaushala is pending with the government but they have not granted till now.” He even said he is not guilty about the deaths of the cow and blamed the government for their negligence
