Serious security lapses have been experienced by several VVIPs, including those protected by the SPG, when they have visited the Rajaji Hall to pay homage to former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi, who has passed away recently, as the Tamil Nadu police authorities have failed to coordinate with the security personals of the VVIPs.

Congress president Rahul Gandhi is one of the VVIPs or those protected by the SPG who have had to undergo such a bad experience in the hall.

Apart from him, several other VVIPs, who have attended the function, have gone through similar experience in the hall.

The Tamil Nadu authorities have conceded that they have failed to coordinate properly with the security personals of the VVIPs.

Unusually, before the commencement of such a function, the state authorities, which has the responsibility of security, organises meeting with all stakeholders to discuss all matters concerning the security.

Unfortunately, such kinds of meetings have not occurred before the commencement of the function at the Rajaji hall due to the lack of time.

Considering the fact that India has in the past paid huge prize for the security lapses, the authorities need to pay serious attention to the security of the VVIPs, particularly when they attend such overly crowded functions.
