Sri Lanka blames deadly blast on local Islamist group

The government of the Island country of Sri Lanka, which suffered a serious of disastrous bomb blasts, has blamed the blasts on a local Islamist group, the National Thowheed Jamath (NTJ).

While speaking in the Sri Lankan parliament, the Defence Minister, Ruwan Wijewardene, has said that the attacks were committed in retaliation to the ferocious shooting attacks happened in New Zealand recently. Notably, the minister has refined from elaborating the subject beyond that point.

In the attacks that jolted the Island country recently, as many as 321 people have been killed. Moreover, more than 500 people, who narrowly escaped from the clutches of death, are in various hospitals across the country. It is hoped that the death toll will not rise further.

The latest attacks are the most dangerous one that the country has suffered since the elimination of LTTE from the territory of Sri Lanka.

So far, over 40 people have been booked in connection with the case. The investigation is underway. Still, many find it difficult to digest the suggestion that the attacks were committed by a handful of people based in the Island.

The big question is that did the attackers receive any help from any foreign agents like the Islamic State.

Most experts believe that it is difficult to carry out a attack of this expend without the support of any foreign elements.

Meanwhile, in the coming days, the Sri Lankan authorities will have to answer why their intelligence framework failed to detect the threat and to act up on the inputs shared by some foreign intelligence agencies.

As the election is not too far, the question of the administrative failure is difficult to be washed out of the discussion table of the Sri Lankan political hemisphere.
