SC asks Gujarat to pay compensation to communal violence victim Bilkis Bano
The top court of the country has ordered the government of the Indian state of Gujarat to pay a compensation of fifty lakh Indian rupees to Gujarat communal violence victim Bilkis Yakoob Rasool Bano, who suffered severe brutality during the riot and lost almost all of her close family members to the disastrous incident.
The Supreme Court of India has also ordered the state government of Gujarat to provide a government job to the victim. The government has also been asked to prove a housing facility for the victim in the place of her choice.
The Gujarat government will have to pay the compensation within the timeframe of two weeks.
Recently, the top court of the Indian state of Maharashtra upheld the life imprisonment punishment given to those who committed brutality against Bilkis Bano.
