On Supreme Court’s Remarks On Nupur Sharma, Law Minister Says This

Union Law Minister Kiren Rijiju said on Saturday that he will bring up the matter at a suitable forum, a day after the Supreme Court harshly criticised suspended BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma for her divisive statements against Prophet Muhammad.

While at the BJP national executive meeting in Hyderabad, Mr. Rijiju spoke to ANI and stated, “First of all, as a Law Minister, it is not proper for me to comment on the ruling as well as the statement made by the Supreme Court panel.

The minister said, “Even if I disagree with the decision or have a severe issue with how the observations are made, I would not like to remark.” Last week, the Supreme Court strongly criticised Nupur Sharma for her remarks during a televised discussion and held her accountable for the level of violence in the nation.

The Union Law Minister continued to discuss the matter, stating, “Reactions are coming; I am receiving several representations and messages to comment on this; nonetheless, we will examine the subject at the appropriate forum.”

It’s interesting to note that the comments were made verbally or orally and were not represented in the ruling issued by the Supreme Court.

“I don’t want to directly address or allude to the Supreme Court’s observation. Since it is an oral observation and not a conclusion, “Rijiju stated.

The Supreme Court also stated that Ms. Sharma is solely to blame for the state of the nation due to “her loose tongue” and “setting the entire country on fire.” According to the Supreme Court, she should “apologise to the entire country.”

A bench of Justices Surya Kant and JB Pardiwala criticised Ms. Sharma for her remarks and stated that “her outburst is accountable for an unpleasant tragedy” in reference to the Udaipur incident, in which two men killed a tailor. The Supreme Court also denied Ms. Sharma’s bid to have all the FIRs filed against her across the nation because of her divisive comments about the Prophet transferred to Delhi, but it did let her to withdraw her case and pursue alternative remedies.

Last month, Ms. Sharma made offensive comments about the Prophet Muhammad on a prime-time TV debate programme. This sparked widespread outrage in India and the Middle East, and the BJP was forced to suspend Ms. Sharma while an investigation was underway.
