Congress, leftists unhappy with NDA’s plan to organise ‘midnight function’ to launch GST

It seems that the Congress party and Communist parties are unhappy with the NDA led central government’s plan to organise a midnight function to launch the Goods and Services Tax. It is alleged that organising such a function in the midnight is like elevating the launch function to the status of the Indian Independence. The Congress leaders say that the move is to insult the freedom struggle and those freedom fighters who selflessly participated in the historic struggle. As per the report, the India Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, will be the chief guest of the official function which is scheduled to take place today midnight. The Congress members and left party members, though they are invited, are not likely to participate in the function. It is said that the authorities are doing their best to make today’s event as one of the most prominent events and to highlight the rollout of the GST as one of the most significant achievements of the government. Meanwhile, the India President, Pranab Mukherjee, has thanked the Prime Minister and the Finance Minister, Arun Jaitley on their achievement. Anyway, observers say that the country is going to step into a new tax regime tomorrow with a lot of aspirations and dreams just like it stepped into the freedom on August 15, 1947. Observers add that both are significant events but it is unfair to compare the independence with the GST implementation. In no way the GST implementation is more important than the independence, observers further add.
