Wickremesinghe set to come back as PM
Ousted Sri Lankan Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe is set to come back as the Prime Minister in the country, which fell into a serious political crisis recently because of the unjustifiable way Mr Wickremesinghe was removed from the post by President Maithripala Sirisena.
The appointment of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa as the PM invited huge criticism. Importantly, the tainted political leader even failed to win the support of the parliament. That development was the one that prompted the Supreme Court to intervene in the issue.
It seems that the supporters of the new PM are well aware that the International community does not support a leader who is rejected by his parliament. In that sense, the resignation is an calculated step to avoid further damages.
It is the son of the new PM Namal Rajapaksa who has came forward with the confirmation that there is merit in the rumour that the PM would resign on Sunday.
At this moment, it remains unclear when will the ousted PM be inducted in the position. The conformation regarding the new appointee is expected to come on the day of the PM’s resignation itself.
From the Indian point of view, it is great news.
