‘Violation of freedom of expression’, Twitter in court against central government

Twitter India moves to Karnataka High Court against central government order to remove content from certain accounts. Twitter approached the court citing abuse of power. A year ago, the Center had sent a notice to Twitter asking it to remove its content, including some Twitter accounts.

Twitter told the court that the Centre’s request to remove content from the accounts of political parties was a violation of freedom of expression and the Center was unwilling to send notices to the tweeters.

Central IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnav said that necessary steps have been taken to make social media responsible. Such a system is being formed all over the world. The Minister stated that this will be implemented in the country as well and the process is progressing at a fast pace.
