US woman calls her parents and claims she was abducted in India. Next, a twist

In an effort to extort money from her parents, a 27-year-old US citizen living here allegedly staged her own kidnapping after she ran out of money, according to police on Sunday. Chloe Mclaughlin was the woman who arrived in Delhi on May 3. They said that she is a US university graduate and that her father, who resides in Washington, DC, is a former army officer.

According to the police, on July 7, Mclaughlin called her mother and claimed that she was in a “unsafe situation” where a man she knew was beating and assaulting her.

They said that she did not reveal where she was at the time. Her mother made contact with the Indian authorities, and the US Embassy reported the incident to the New Delhi District police.

According to officials, the incident was reported more than 2.5 months after the victim arrived in India.

On July 10, Mclaughlin spoke to her mother once more through a video call using WhatsApp, but their conversation was cut short when a guy walked into the room as they were still discussing Mclaughlin.

According to Amrutha Guguloth, deputy commissioner of police for New Delhi, the American Embassy assumed that the woman was either incapacitated or was being prohibited from reaching her family or the Embassy.

Police claimed they employed technological information and contacted Yahoo.com for assistance in locating Mclaughlin’s most recent whereabouts. Mclaughlin had used that IP address on July 9 to e-mail American Citizen Services concerning her immigration papers work.

The Bureau of Immigration handed police the Greater Noida address that she had given them when asked to furnish the immigration paperwork for the alleged victim, the official claimed.

As a result, officers searched a motel where they believed she had stayed. However, the staff there claimed that nobody by that name had stayed at their hotel.

According to Guguloth, detectives discovered that Mclaughlin used another person’s WiFi when she made the video call to her mother.

When questioned, Mclaughlin said that she had fabricated her kidnapping because she had run out of money just a few days after arriving in Delhi. As a result, she and her boyfriend, Okoro, came up with a plot to extort money from her parents.

According to the authorities, both the woman’s and her boyfriend’s passports had expired on June 6.

She travelled to India to stay with Okoro, whom she had already made friends with on Facebook. They both shared this residence and had a love of music. The policeman speculated that this may have contributed to their friendship. Both are facing legal punishment for overstaying their welcome in India without a current passport or visa, according to the police.
