UP Workers Face Prolonged Wait for Israel Jobs Amid Fresh Recruitment Drive

More than 1,300 workers from Uttar Pradesh who were selected for overseas jobs in Israel during the 2024–25 recruitment drive are still waiting for deployment nearly 14 months later, even as the state government has announced fresh vacancies for 2026. The delay has triggered anger and protests among those who cleared the earlier selection process but remain in limbo.

The candidates were shortlisted by the state’s Skill Development Department after nearly 5,000 applicants applied, with 1,383 clearing multiple screening stages. Workers say they completed all requirements, including English tests, skill certification, interviews with Israeli employers and final document verification in Varanasi. They were approved for skilled construction roles such as carpentry, shuttering, iron bending and masonry, with recruitment conducted through the Rozgar Sangam portal in coordination with national and Israeli authorities.

Many workers say the uncertainty has disrupted their livelihoods, as they stopped local work expecting deployment at short notice. Several reported financial strain and stalled personal plans, while also alleging that private agents continue to send labourers to Israel for large fees. Responding to the criticism, Uttar Pradesh Skill Development Minister Kapil Dev Agarwal said discussions are ongoing and the remaining candidates will be sent in phases after further training, noting that around 8,000 workers have already been deployed.
