Under the PLI scheme, Wipro GE Healthcare opens a manufacturing plant worth Rs 100 crore
Under the government’s Production Linked Incentive (PLI) Scheme, Wipro GE Healthcare, a global medical technology and digital solutions services provider, has opened a new manufacturing facility in Bengaluru.
Wipro GE Medical Device Manufacturing Factory (MDM) is a new plant that is aligned with the National Agenda of ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ and will help to boost local medical device manufacturing in India. The facility will be a greenfield entity with an investment of over Rs 100 crore, according to the company.
MDM’s 35,000-square-foot factory is equipped to produce CT machines, cath lab equipment, ultrasound scanners, patient monitoring solutions, ECG machines, and ventilators 24 hours a day, seven days a week. It has automated testers for evaluating the performance of medical devices. According to an official announcement, this facility currently employs 35 people on the shopfloor, but that number is expected to rise to 100 in the next two to three years.
“India is on a fast track to becoming a global leader in the manufacturing of medical devices. “With support from the government’s Production Linked Incentive (PLI) Scheme, Wipro GE Healthcare’s new factory will help the health ecosystem in India realise its true potential in addressing local and global challenges for healthcare providers,” said Azim Premji, Chairman, Wipro GE Healthcare and Chairman, Wipro Enterprises, who also inaugurated the facility.
