Tokyo Olympics hockey: Rupinder gained double goals, India on the way to victory over Spain

India’s return to Olympic men’s hockey by defeating Spain. India won by three goals in Pool A. Rupinder Pal’s double goal and Simranjeet Singh’s one gave India the lead. The inability to capitalize on penalty corners was a setback for Spain.

India took a two-goal lead in the first quarter. The goals were only minutes apart. India took the lead in the 14th minute through Simranjeet. Rupinder gave India the lead in the next minute with a penalty corner. Spain conceded three penalty corners in the first two quarters. But none of them managed to reach the goal.

India, on the other hand, had two or three more chances. But Spash could not subdue the goalkeeper. The third goal came in the fourth quarter. This time too, Rupinder Pal scored from the penalty corner.

With the win, India scored six points in three matches. India are second behind Australia with nine points. Argentina are third with four points. In the other matches played today, Australia defeated Argentina by five goals to two. Japan defeated New Zealand 1-0.
