The Prime Minister’s “Make in India” call – V.P.NandaKumar

To bridge the gap between domestic and international standards in manufacturing and to make India a Global Manufacturing hub for the world, the government is pushing for certain changes. Some of these changes aim at time bound project clearance through a single online portal to expedite approvals from various ministries. An eight member team has been setup dedicated to answering all queries of investors within 48 hours and address key issues such as labour laws, skill development and infrastructure.

Under the Make in India campaign the government is also committed to skill development, build smart cities, set up National Investment and Manufacturing zones, encourage Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in key sectors and invite foreign expertise and knowhow to improve productivity and cost efficiency. Further, to smoothen the movement of capital and labour, the government has committed to build adequate infrastructure.

A specialised project has been taken up to strengthen infrastructure development by building a pentagon of industrial corridors across the country. One such important corridor is the Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor (DMIC), one of the largest infrastructure projects in India spanning the six states of UP, Haryana, MP, Rajasthan, Gujarat and Maharashtra. A preliminary study has begun to analyse the global and domestic outlook for manufacturing, its growth dynamics, and the opportunities and strengths of the industrial areas of these states.
