Meesho Under Fire for Allegedly Selling T-Shirts Featuring Image of Gangster Lawrence Bishnoi
E-commerce platform Meesho is facing backlash after allegedly listing t-shirts featuring the name and image of Lawrence Bishnoi, a Punjab-based criminal with alleged ties to gang violence. The controversy erupted on social media when filmmaker Alishan Jafri shared posts highlighting these products, some of which were available in children’s sizes. Critics have accused the platform of “glorifying violence,” with concerns about the potential impact on younger audiences.
Following the viral post, a Meesho spokesperson responded, stating that the company took “immediate action” to remove the items, which were no longer visible in search results on the platform. While Meesho’s website showed no listings for these products, a Google search led to a Meesho page where they appeared as “out of stock.”
Bishnoi, currently in Ahmedabad’s Sabarmati jail, made recent headlines when his gang was allegedly linked to the murder of former Maharashtra minister Baba Siddique. Bishnoi’s extensive gang network, with more than 700 members across India, has been associated with crimes such as extortion and contract killings. His name has also surfaced in recent India-Canada tensions, with Canadian officials alleging links between his gang and Indian agents.
