Takeda’s QDENGA Becomes First Dengue Vaccine Approved in India
Japan-based Takeda Pharmaceutical’s dengue vaccine QDENGA has become the first dengue vaccine to receive approval from India’s drug regulator. The vaccine is designed to protect against all four dengue virus strains and can be administered without prior dengue testing, making it suitable for a wider population.
The approval comes as India continues to face a rising dengue burden, with reported cases increasing significantly over the past two decades. Takeda has partnered with Indian vaccine manufacturer Biological E to expand production, with plans to manufacture up to 50 million doses annually in India as part of its global supply strategy.
First launched internationally in 2022, QDENGA has now been approved in 43 countries, with more than 32 million doses distributed worldwide. The company said long-term clinical data shows the vaccine provides sustained protection against dengue infection and reduces the risk of dengue-related hospitalization.
