Suicide bomber strikes at mosque in Afghanistan; More than 100 people were reported killed

A suicide bomber attack has killed at least 100 people in a mosque in northern Kunduz. Several people were injured. The bomber struck shortly after noon in front of a mosque in Gosar-e-Syed Abad. No one has claimed responsibility for the attack.

This is the largest attack since the US and NATO forces left Afghanistan. The Taliban have blamed IS for the blast. Kunduz is a predominantly Shia Muslim area. IS regularly attacks Shia Muslims.

Kunduz provincial deputy police chief Mohammed Obaida said the Taliban would ensure the security of the Shia brothers. A mosque in Kabul was also bombed last Sunday. The bomber struck shortly after noon in front of a church, killing at least 12 people and wounding 32 others.
