Saga of a philanthropist, global leader – Dr Naresh Aggarwal

Lions Clubs International is a global charitable organisation, founded by Melvin Jones on June 7, 1917, which have around 46,000 local clubs and at least 1.4 million members. Its motto is ‘We Serve’.

The success stories of the Lions Club from the last century are filled with tens of thousands of life-changing and life-preserving services.

The declared purposes of Lions club are: to organise service clubs across world; to coordinate its philanthropic activities; to create a spirit of understanding; to promote the principle of good leadership; to take an interest in social and cultural welfare of community; to unite clubs; to provide an active forum for the discussion; to encourage philanthropic people.

In its 99th Convention held in Japan in early this year, Dr Naresh Aggarwal, from the Indian state of Punjab, was elected as the centennial Vice-President of the global non-political service organisation.

Dr Naresh joined the club in 1974 and is a Life Member of Lions club Batala Smile. He served various prestigious positions in his home club, including club president. Subsequently, he served as District Governor and as Chairman of Council of Governors. Later, he earned great appreciation for serving on Global Membership Team as Area Leader. He was an International Director of the club. He worked as International Board Appointee thrice. He also served as Global Leadership Team’s Constitutional Area Leader.

The Vice-President of the Lions club is the Chief Patron of DainikPrarthana Sabha, which is operating several charity projects. He is also the Vice-President of Age-Care India, a charitable trust for the care and welfare of old people.

Basically, Dr Naresh is a business man running steel and agri-product business. He received 23 International President’s medals and an Ambassador of Goodwill award.

It has been a rare coincidence that he was also born on 13th January, which is the date of birth of Lion’s founder.
