Reliance Enters AI with New Subsidiary, Strikes JVs with Google and Meta
Reliance Industries Chairman Mukesh Ambani on Friday announced the conglomerate’s entry into artificial intelligence (AI) with the launch of a wholly owned subsidiary, Reliance Intelligence, aiming to transform the group into a deep-tech enterprise. “A decade ago, digital services became a new growth engine for Reliance. Now, the opportunity before us with AI is just as large, if not larger,” Ambani said at the company’s AGM.
Reliance Intelligence will focus on four key missions — building next-gen AI infrastructure with AI-ready data centres in Jamnagar, collaborating with global tech giants and open-source communities, delivering AI services to enterprises and government bodies, and nurturing AI talent. To drive these ambitions, Reliance has announced joint ventures with Google and Meta, two of the world’s leading technology firms.
Google will support Reliance by setting up a dedicated Jamnagar Cloud region and providing access to its cloud and AI technologies. Meta, meanwhile, is partnering through a new $100-million joint venture that will deploy its open-source Llama models for Indian enterprises and developers. Commenting on the tie-up, Sundar Pichai of Google and Mark Zuckerberg of Meta highlighted India’s potential to become a global AI hub, with AI expected to reshape industries from kirana stores to large corporations.
