Qatar LNG Cuts May Affect India After Iran Strikes
India could face disruptions in its liquefied natural gas (LNG) imports from Qatar following Iranian attacks on energy facilities, according to government officials. India relies on Qatar for about 41% of its LNG imports, making it the country’s second-largest supplier, with 11.2 million tons delivered in 2024/25 out of over 27 million tons imported overall.
The strikes have damaged two of Qatar’s 14 LNG trains and one of its gas-to-liquids facilities, reducing export capacity by 17% and threatening $20 billion in annual revenue. QatarEnergy CEO Saad al-Kaabi estimated that 12.8 million tons per year of LNG could be sidelined for three to five years due to the damage.
Despite the force majeure declared by Qatar earlier this month, Indian officials remain optimistic that LNG shipments to India will continue, as the facilities serving the country were not affected by the attacks. The situation remains under close monitoring amid global supply concerns.
