Protest against Nawab Malik’s arrest; ED action on land deal with Dawood Ibrahim’s followers

Maharashtra ministers today will protest against the arrest the Maharashtra government’s Nawab Malik, in a land deal involving the followers of underworld leader Dawood Ibrahim. The decision has been taken to hold a protest rally at the Gandhi Memorial.

The alliance is of the view that the minister should not resign. The BJP’s move to use the central agencies against the ministers will intensify the campaign. The court remanded Nawab Malik in ED custody till March 3. Nawab Malik, the Maharashtra Minister for Minority Welfare and NCP leader, has been arrested by the Enforcement Directorate in a money laundering case. The minister was taken to JJ Hospital in Mumbai for a medical examination.

The arrest of Nawab Malik was recorded after he was summoned for questioning. Nawab Malik is the second Maharashtra minister to be arrested by the ED. Former Home Minister Anil Deshmukh was also arrested earlier. The arrest was reportedly made after an eight-hour interrogation. Enforcement took the minister away from home at 7 am. Nawab Malik’s land deal with Dawood Ibrahim’s relatives.

The Shiv Sena has come out against the action of the Enforcement Directorate. The manner in which Nawab Malik, a senior minister and leader, was taken away from the Enforcement House is a challenge to the Maharashtra government. A central agency has come to the state and taken away a minister. Sanjay Routh’s challenge is not to forget that the BJP will also face probe after 2024.
