Prabhas and Akshay Kumar battle for box office; ‘Adipurush’ and ‘Rakshabandhan’ in theaters on the same day
The state of Maharashtra is one of the major markets for Indian cinema, especially Bollywood cinema. Many other states have already opened theaters but the release dates of major Bollywood films have not been announced as they have not opened in Maharashtra.
But with Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray announcing that theaters in the state will open on October 22, there is competition between the stars to announce the release dates. The release dates of several films, including those of famous actors, were later announced. Now, two big movies are all set to hit theaters on the same day.
Adipurush, a multilingual mythological 3D film starring Prabhas and Saif Ali Khan and directed by Om Rawat, and Rakshabandhan, directed by Anand L Roy and starring Akshay Kumar, are all set to hit theaters on the same day. The release date of Adipurush was announced last November. The line-up had announced that the film would arrive on August 11, 2022. Now, the release date of the film has been announced by the producers of Rakshabandhan.
Hundreds of films in various languages are awaiting release as theaters across the country have been closed for most of the year and a half since Covid started. The producers are also looking forward to reactivating the theaters and trying to secure the release of their films during the festive seasons.
Prabhas and Saif Ali Khan will play the lead roles in ‘Adipurushi’ starring Rama and Ravana respectively. It is reported that the film is being made with a budget of Rs 450 crore. Many foreign technicians will be in the cast of the film, which is of great importance to VFX. Meanwhile, ‘Rakshabandhan’ is directed by Anand L Roy, who has directed films including Tanu Weds Manu and Zero. Akshay Kumar’s sister Alka Hiranandani is co-producing the film with director Anand L Roy.
