PM Modi’s Mother, Heeraben Modi, Dies Days After Hospitalisation
Heeraben, the mother of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, passed away early on Friday. She was 99. PM Modi has departed for Ahmedabad after being scheduled to visit West Bengal to introduce a number of projects. According to sources, the programmes will go as scheduled, and the prime minister may participate via video conference.
Heeraben formerly resided in Raysan village, close to Gandhinagar, with Pankaj Modi, the PM’s younger brother. During his frequent trips to Gujarat, the Prime Minister would stop by Raysan and spend time with his mother.
She turned 99 in June of this year, and PM Modi blogged about it. The prime minister discussed many events in his mother’s life that “formed his thinking, personality, and self-confidence” in the blog. In the blog, the prime minister claims that, in comparison to him, his mother’s childhood was quite difficult. He also notes that she lost her mother very young, and that this continued to hurt her.
